How to Make a Text Match Cut Video, Step by Step

Updated November 8, 2026

This guide walks through the free maker on our home page, one setting at a time. By the end you will know how to get a sharp, well timed clip that fits your video.

1. Write a short phrase

Type a short sentence into the text box. Think of it like a headline. “The real reason prices went up” works better than a long paragraph, because only a few words are visible around the highlighted one.

The phrase is shown in full on each frame, with the rest of the page filled by other text. You can use letters, numbers, emoji and most languages, including Arabic.

2. Choose the word to highlight

Below the text box, every word of your phrase appears as a button. Tap the one you want people to remember. That word gets the coloured marker and stays fixed in the centre of the screen on every frame.

Pick the most important word, not the first one. In “The real reason prices went up”, the word prices carries the meaning, so that is the one to highlight. You can also select two neighbouring words by tapping both.

3. Pick the size

  • 9:16 is the tall size for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and Snapchat.
  • 1:1 is square, good for feed posts on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • 16:9 is wide, for YouTube videos, presentations and X.

Choose the size of the video you are going to put the clip into. That way you will not need to crop it later.

4. Choose a style

The style sets the look of the pages that flash behind your word.

  • Paper mixes book pages, letters and printed documents in warm colours.
  • Newsprint looks like newspapers and magazines, with columns and bold headlines.
  • Dark uses dark pages with light text, great for tech and gaming videos.
  • Mixed switches between all of them for the most variety.

5. Pick a highlight colour

Yellow is the classic marker colour. If your channel has a brand colour, use it instead so the clip fits the rest of your video.

6. Set the timing

Length is how long the clip lasts. Two to four seconds is ideal for an opening hook.

Speed is how many times per second the background changes. Around 10 feels lively without being tiring. Lower values feel calmer, higher values feel urgent.

7. Fine tune the look

Zoom controls how close the camera is to the highlighted word. More zoom makes the word bigger and hides more of the surrounding text.

Blur softens the text around the word so the highlighted word stands out. A little blur looks like a shallow camera focus.

Sound adds a short effect on every cut, such as a paper flick or a camera click. You can turn it off if you plan to add music later.

8. Preview and download

The preview at the top shows your settings as you change them. When you are happy, press Make my video. The clip is recorded in real time, so a 3 second video takes about 3 seconds. Keep the tab open until the download button appears.

Putting the clip into your edit

Import the downloaded file into your editor, such as CapCut, Premiere, DaVinci Resolve or the editor inside TikTok, and place it at the start of your timeline. A quick fade or a hard cut into your first shot both work. If you made the clip silent, add a whoosh or a page flip sound at the moment it ends.

If something goes wrong

  • The video is choppy. Close other tabs and apps, or lower the speed. Older phones can struggle with very fast settings.
  • The download is WebM. Your browser cannot record MP4. TikTok, YouTube and most editors accept WebM, or you can convert it with any video converter.
  • The word is cut off. Use a shorter word or lower the zoom.
